CCD on Mondays – Solution Management

Hope you had a good Monday for a change & keeping safe in mid of the pandemic. In today’s blog, we will see the different ways you can upgrade your Click Dimension Solutions. As & when Microsoft upgrades or releases new functionalities, the features of Click Dimensions are also tested and upgraded as per need. Sometimes, bugs have been reported & those needs to be fixed. So, depending upon the scenario, click dimensions also release upgrades.

The solution management will let you know your existing version of Click Dimensions vs any upgraded version available within.

Let us see the two ways in which the solution could be updated. These can be found on the Click Dimensions settings page inside CRM.

  • Manual Update – This would let you download the solution file & later you need to import the solution file via solution import feature of CRM. If you have customized code at your end & added plugins on top of the OOB feature of Click Dimensions, make sure to check the ‘Overwrite Customization’ step.
  • Semi-Automated Update – This would update the solution file & you will be notified once the solution update is done. The ‘Overwrite Customization’ step is mandatory to set to true here.

Finally, all the metadata needs to be published to Click Dimensions as well.

Notification email – The mailbox that will receive confirmation in case a Semi-automated way is chosen.

You can refer to all the release notes here for here.

Note – Full-automated way of updating the solution is now removed. Click Dimensions force upgrades the system in this case. Only recommended for the sandbox environment.

CCD on Mondays – A/B Testing

Hi there! I know its not Monday but then I will not change my theme. So, keeping in that way & moving towards today’s blog. We have seen Email Send & detailed email statistics. Let see quickly how to update your email to A/B testing.

A/B testing is a well-known marketing term for a comparison of emails to be sent. They could differ in one of the many ways like:

  • Different subjects
  • Different send time
  • Different email templates
  • Different sender

It all depends on how your two groups of randomly divided customers react to the email received & based on the winning/deciding factor, you let the rest of the email go with the winning strategy.

Let us quickly see how to change the draft email send to A/B testing version now.

On your email record, on the ribbon click on the Split test button

Note – Make sure you have a marketing list attached to the email sent to avoid an error message.

Next choose the differentiating factor, like Subject, Sender name & address, email template & sending date time.

Save & move to the next screen.

Use the slider to decide how many customers need to be in the deciding factor. Do not forget to select the winning strategy & the number of hours/minutes for the winning version to go out.

Finally, save and/or Save and send.

The A/B testing email would be out after approval is provided from your end.

Toast Notification Display Time

Many of you must have by now upgraded Dynamics CRM to the UCI version and probably have noticed many changes. I am today writing about a new addition visible apart from UI change to the Settings Family. In UCI, the options under settings have been updated and revamped. This newly added setting is called ‘Toast Notification Display Time’.

Let us see now what happens if you play with it.

So, it asks us first whether we want to Apply default notification display time. We will enable it now.

The second time you click on it, it will ask us whether we want to extend the toast notification display time (x10).  We will do it now.

How to see changes in each phase now? So, you can either create a normal record & save it. Or, try creating a record from Quick create functionality so that you can see below notification.

By enabling toast notification & then extending it, increases the time the saved notification is displayed for end-users.

PS – If you are creating a record via a normal way (not via quick create form), please disable the Auto-save first for you to notice changes.

I experimented with timer now & testing this feature. Below are the results:

Quick Create Record CreationNotification SettingEstimated Time Notification was visible (approx.)Navigation to other entity or record & visibility of notification
Test Account 1Apply Default Notification Time10 secondsYes
Test Account 2Extend Display Time1 minute 30 secondsYes

Note – This has nothing to do with the Classic UI version of Dynamics CRM.

Hope this helps!

Common Data Service – Mailbox Usage

Mailbox usage is a way to check how many active mailboxes per environment. These mailboxes could the ones enabled for background operations for admin users/service accounts.

You can browse the URL for checking the insights – https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/

The first one will give an idea of the following:

  • Number of Server-Side Sync configured mailboxes
  • Number of Server-Side Sync enabled mailboxes
  • Number of Server-Side Sync configured mailboxes
  • Number of Server-Side Sync ACT enabled mailboxes
  • Number of Server-Side Sync Incoming enabled mailboxes
  • Number of Server-Side Sync Outgoing enabled mailboxes

Followed by graphical representation of:

  • Mailboxes by server type
  • Active email server profiles by geo
  • Mailboxes by exchange configuration

It will also then show you the number of mailbox configuration errors over time faced in the environment

We can also see the mailbox usage at any point in time. This could be zero if no work was done on that date & time via the mailbox.

Finally, we have a representation of the number of outlook mailboxes over time.

Hope this helps!

Common Data Service – Plug-ins

I cannot imagine any Dynamics 365 implementation without writing any Plug-ins. I still remember Day 2 of the first-ever project & I was told to write a plug-in. Plug-ins add another level of customization to the project & may increasing complexity depending upon how they have been written. So, coming to today’s blog Admin Portal of Power Platform has a Plug-ins tab to add ease to the analytics & insights for developers.

You can browse the URL for checking the insights – https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/

You can see the Pass rate of your plugin & number of executions as well. Executions define the total number of times the plugins were called overtime.

You can then scroll to see the most active plugins, average plugin execution time & top plugins by failure.

So that is short & sweet on plugins. We will next check out on API calls statistics

CCD on Monday – Sent Email Statistics

Happy Monday! I am back with detailed Email Statistics as promised last Monday. We will see what all analytics & insights are provided by Click Dimensions out of the box. Screenshot used in this blog is for a reference purpose to provide you an idea & may or may not belong to the same campaign.

If you go to your Sent email record now, you will see an Email Statistics button on ribbon undefined

If you click on it, it will open a new tab for you where you will land on the Overview section which was also present on Sent Email record. You can export the overview report also.

Moving on to the next tab, we have Email Clients, where you will get an idea of clients used to open the email you sent along with a comparison of Desktop vs Mobile which is pretty cool I believe. Since using these stats you will have an overall idea of testing your email templates for cross browsers as well devices.

Note – The stats for top clients refers to first opened by customer

Next on Conversions, we will have more details, these are self-explanatory. My template didn’t have any form of submission or survey hence they are blank. Also, even though I had a website given, nobody clicked on the website link, so the stat is zero as well.

On Click Report tab, You will have a detailed report on clicks per link based on the number of links in your email template which will give you an idea of Unique vs Total Clicks. All these data will be synced back to Dynamics 365 CRM as well.

Then on the Recipients tab, you will have more details so as to which customer opened the email how many times & the number of times clicked. You can also see whether the email was delivered or bounced.

You will have Click Map percentages on the overall Email template being displayed undefined undefined You can scroll thru your template to see different percentages.

Social shares tab I have no data, but this would give you a horizontal bar as per shares followed by the number.

Power Automate Issue – HTTP request failed with status code ‘TrustFailure’

Power Automate is the new buddy for any task that needs automation & to avoid unnecessary paperwork. Power Automate, one of the members of the Power Platform family that are used anywhere whether you can want to send data from Power Apps to some other process or maybe to Power Virtual Agent. It’s that super cool.

I am writing a quick issue that one of the community member faced & could not resolve. Fortunately, we found the solution & I am documenting it so that if any one of us faces this he knows exactly what to do.

Issue – HTTP request failed with status code ‘TrustFailure’ & status message: ‘The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel’.

Description – This error was occurring while doing an HTTP request to an external API.

Resolution – SSL Certificate had expired of the vendor who was hosting this API. Irrespective of a third-party vendor, this error could come to our own hosted API in case of SSL certificate expiry.

You can check with the vendor/admin team who handles the health maintenance of servers. He will update this for you.

Read more about Certificates here .

Hope this helps! #Community Rocks 😊

Common Data Service – System Jobs Analytics & Insights

We have seen that system jobs have a huge impact on the storage of our Dynamics 365 environment. CDS Analytics provides some of the great insights into system jobs. It helps us to have a quick health check on environments & make sure that things are as smooth as butter.

You can browse the URL for checking the insights – https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/

You will see the total number of executions done within the time frame selected along with System Jobs Pass Rate as well as System Jobs Throughput/Hour.

It will list all the active workflows in your environment. You can make use of this graph if you see the frequency is unusual than expected.

System job execution & backlog is one of the amazing graphs. It will tell you how many times it executed on a day.

It will also list down workflows by failures & you could see details for reasons. Unfortunately, I did have any graph to show.
